Junior Student Counsellor

Counselling is a field of psychology dedicated to support individuals with emotional distress and behavioral problems. The sensitive rhythm of life is sometimes affected by internal or external chaos. The challenges of life-stages or ones painful history have the potential of both-traumatic ruptures or individual growth. In counselling we view the experiences of loneliness, depression, anxiety and doubt as human responses to these crises.

The counsellors are trained professionals who, through their own disciplined subjectivities, help to strengthen the counselee’s capacity to cope despite adversities. Our aim is to provide on unconditional positive regard, support and help within the rubric of confidentiality. In a trusting intimate atmosphere of counselling, the counselee experiences an increased appreciation of a mature acceptance of reality and personal responsibility. As counsellors we hope that with therapy a student could create a space where a restitution of his or her ‘self’ can begin.

The spirit of our work as counsellors is to enable an enduring resilience in the students where the previously potent sense of dissipation or brokenness is replaced by self-cohesion and personal reflectivity. In counselling there are no magical solutions. Only a hope that with deep and sensitive work with ones experiences one could develop a capacity of ‘going to pieces without falling apart’.

The counselors are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Student Counsellor Room, Ground Floor.
