This is the 90
year of the existence of Ramjas College. Founded
in 1917 Ramjas College today boasts of a spacious campus, stateof-
the art infrastructure and an esteemed faculty of scholars trained
at leading universities in India and abroad. At Ramjas, we believe in
providing holistic education. While the primary stress is on achieving
academic excellence, we also provide various platforms to help
students enhance their knowledge and skills in areas that we believe
are important for their all round development. Add on courses
in areas as diverse as forensic sciences, gender studies and film appreciation,
language courses in Indian and foreign languages and
speciality clubs and societies like the future club and media studies
allow students of our college to enrich their knowledge. The broad
Ramjas philosophy is to nurture tomorrow’s minds for their all-round
development.
Ramjas College stands out as
Vibrant – Pulsating with life, vigour and activities.
Virtuous – Upholding high values and standards
Inspiring – Inculcating confidence and desire to be different.
Full of possibilities – Creating conditions under which each one in the College can realize his/her
highest personal potential.
Accessible – All sections of the College are always available to listen, help and guide each other.
From seminars to debates to cultural events, there is a continual buzz around Ramjas. As an example I would
like to mention the performance of our debating team, which was simply outstanding and swept all major debates
in the University of Delhi and its colleges and at the national and international level. The College also
stands for a high sense of values, best exemplified in the transparency we maintain in the sharing and management
of information. The Students Information Services (SIS) system is a dedicated web-based management
information system module that makes all student related data vis-à-vis assignments, attendance, tutorials, etc
available online in real time. Our information sharing philosophy makes the college administration extremely accessible.
I personally am always available to directly address any student related issues.
At Ramjas, we believe in questioning conventional and conservative opinions that are insensitive and restricting
to both men and women. As part of our interventionist and pro-active initiative, we have a Gender Forum and
a Women’s Development Cell (WDC), which promote awareness and educational programmes to empower all
of us to enhance our position as educated and aware citizens.
Ramjas is the first college in Delhi University to visualize and conceptualize the concept of an integrated network
connecting all departments and disciplines. Every citizen of the Ramjas community has access to free
internet service, library information system, and the student information system. Another milestone for the
college is the induction of 26 short term certificate courses along with many novel clubs and societies. To
overcome linguistic and cultural barriers, Ramjas has incorporated new language courses through the School of
Foreign and Indian Languages. Further in 2006, the college also distinguished itself in the International arena
of education and research by initiating an academic exchange program with premier Universities such as University
of Copenhagen, University of Antwerp and Lahore University of Management Science, etc. With the rich
legacy of 90 years, Ramjas is heading for international recognition as a centre for academic excellence.
The College has excellent facilities backed by the latest in modern technology, making it an excellent institute
for learning and research. The College has an air-conditioned auditorium that has hosted renowned performers
from all over India, and a state-of-the-art Seminar Room with multi-media facilities and a surround theatre DLP
projection-cum-audio system. An attractive cafeteria, renovated classrooms and departments with individual computers
add to the over all charm of life in Ramjas.
The over one lakh titles in the library are all bar-coded. Books are issued matching bar coded student ID Cards
and titles of their choice. Availability of titles can be checked on computers available in the library. There is a
proposal to also make available a searchable title list on the web through SIS. The Student information system
(SIS) stores all attendance, tutorials, presentations, project reports and midterm results are posted online termwise
according to the university prescribed roster. Teachers, staff and students have access to syllabi, personal
data, tutorial topics, articles relevant to assigned tutorial, attendance, etc. SIS ensures transparency, accuracy
and ease of data management.
The College has built an impressive community area called Student Activity Center for informal meetings and
discussions regarding academic, cultural, political and other creative activities. It has an LCD projection system
as well as a hi-fi sound system. This has helped in greater student participation and interaction amongst themselves.
Ramjas is an equal opportunity College and has a strong commitment to gender equality. A Hostel for women
was opened in 2005 which has 80 seats. It is wonderfully outfitted and equipped with separate management,
entrance, security, dining–hall, common room and various other facilities.
The faculty members and the Principal continually follow the development and performance of each student in
class, mid-term examinations and tutorials. The College has 21 academic societies, all of which remain pro-active
throughout the year. It is obligatory for departments and academic societies of the College to organize talks/
workshops/seminars/symposia/screening of films, etc in each term during the academic session.
The key to be an equal knowledge worker is an exposure to the globalized world and this is possible only when
students and the teaching faculty of the College interact with their international counterparts. The Centre for
International education shall initiate large scale activities in this regard.
In order to extend financial support to students the College has also introduced a scheme where the students
can ‘work while studying’. We engage students’ services in the library and in data feeding sections of the
computers as and when required. The College also helps College students to find a part time job during the
summer vacations. It also has an active Placement Cell which helps interested students from the College to find
placement in good companies and organizations.
As part of the ever-growing Ramjas Community, there is the Ramjas College Alumni Association that organises
regular events to strengthen links between students old and new.
From this academic session, the college has assigned a significant role for the students. There shall be
Peer Tutoring. An eligible senior student shall tutor the junior students in the class rooms, schedule for which
will be worked out by the respective departments.
Each student of the College is invited to start any activity-may be a club or a wall-paper or a magazine or
anything-possibilities are endless-which he/she finds creative, fun-orientated and helps in learning things.
Each faculty member will announce consultation hours, during which time the students would meet them for
guidance and future planning.
You will be encouraged to reinvent and reorient environment around you. Think what can compliment your
needs-share them with your Mentor, tutor and the Student Counsellor. I am always there.
Take advantage of the work while studying initiative of the College. We will help you in getting associated with
a company/institution/NGO etc. Besides learning in the process, you may finally get absorbed there.
If you would like to be a member of the College Anti-Ragging Committee, do meet me.
As Principal, I invite all students at Ramjas College to communicate directly with me. On your personal SIS
homepage, click ‘Principal Direct’ and feel free to share problems/issues with me. Of course you are always free
to meet me personally in my office after taking an appointment. Together, let us share our ideas, dreams and
vision to make the learning process an even more exciting experience.
