School of Foreign and Indian Languages

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to SFIL, Ramjas College. India is today an international destination with a rich reserve of its own global travelers. It is a busy nub for commercial and cultural transactions which constantly require the crossing of the barrier of language.

All of you will have different reasons for choosing to learn a foreign language. I would like to emphasise that no matter what you choose, you must have fun doing it. Languages open up a whole new world ready to receive those who are eager to enter it. As a language enthusiast myself, I can say that there is no excitement equal to the one I feel when I string together that first line which makes sense in an alien language, or the ecstasy of comprehension of a foreign tongue. It is intense hard work, done every single day, which produces fluency in a language. In the end it is a rewarding experience.

Please do go through this handbook very carefully to acquaint yourself with SFIL. I look forward to meeting each one of you in the new session.
