Entrance test for BA (Hons) English














Admission to BA (Hons) English will be based on a written test of one-hour duration to be held in the College on Thursday, 28 th June 2007 between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. The weightage, based on University guidelines, will be 70 marks for the Entrance Test and 30 marks for Class XII Board Examination ‘Best Four’ aggregate. Different Eligibility Criteria for appearing in the Entrance Test for admission to English Honours I Yr for the year 2007-08 are explained in the following Grids:

Important Notes for English (Honours) applicants:

A: Registration for the Entrance Test shall be done over 3 days — on Monday - 25 June, Tuesday - 26 th June and Wednesday - 27 th June, between 9:30 AM and 1:00 PM. The College will charge a registration fee of Rs 50 (fifty rupees only).

Registration for the Entrance Test is Compulsory.

Venue of Registration – Boys Common Room (Near Sports Department)

Documents required at the time of Registeration:

* Two passport size recent photographs (of which one will be required on the day of the least), along with photocopies of the following:

* Class X pass certificate (for the proofe of date of birth).

* Class XII mark sheet

* Provisional cum character certificate from school last attended.

B. All issues relating to gap year students (those students who have passed their XII Board exam earlier than the year 2007), inclusion of vocational subjects, compartment cases, etc. will be dealt with according to the guidelines of the College Staff Council.

C. STUDENTS WISHING TO APPLY FOR ADMISSION TO ENGLISH HONOURS ARE ORDINARILY NOT REQUIRED TO APPLY FOR THE COURSE ALONG WITH GENERAL APPLICATIONS DURING THE PERIOD JUNE 1 ST to JUNE 15 TH , 2007.

D. The following will be eligible for consideration as vocational subjects:

(a) Fine Arts           (b) Music

(c) Dance               (d) Information Practice              (e) Computer Science

NOTE:

  • Only one of any of the above five can be included in the best four subjects.
  • The marks in the vocational subject included will be reduced by 10%, as against academic subjects

E: The following subjects will NOT be included amongst the best four subjects while calculating the aggregate of applicants:

  1. Agriculture
  2. Home Science
  3. Entrepreneurship
  4. Engineering drawing
  5. Physical Education

F: Elective English will be considered a subject and not a language. Functional English will be treated at par with English Core/Elective. It will be considered an academic subject.

G: Performance in the Entrance Test alone does not guarantee Admission to English Honours if the candidate fails to fulfil other Admission criteria laid down by the College Staff Council and the University of Delhi.
